Chen Meng and Wang Yidi claimed women's doubles title after beating Jeon Ji-hee and Shin Yu-bin of South Korea at Durban table tennis worlds.

DURBAN, South Africa, May 27 (Xinhua) — Chen Meng and Wang Yidi kept China's title-winning record rolling in women's doubles after lifting the trophy at the ITTF World Table Tennis Championships (WTTC) Finals here on Saturday.

The Chinese pair got past Jeon Ji-hee and Shin Yu-bin of South Korea 11-8, 11-7, 12-10 in the final.

Jeon and Shin demonstrated their eagerness and competitiveness for the title after chalking up a straight-game victory over defending champions Sun Yingsha and Wang Manyu in Friday's semifinal.

Competing in their second tournament as a pair, Chen and Wang showed no mercy against the South Korean duo on their way to the crown.

"We were well-prepared for the difficulties. It wasn't plain sailing, but we are happy to come through," said Chen.

Wang, who had lost a nerve-shredding singles quarterfinal match to Hina Hayata, emphasized her quick adjustments after the loss.

"Many people encouraged me, and it worked quite well for me today. Without their help, I could not make adjustments in such a short time," she noted.

It was the 18th consecutive time for China to win the event's title at the table tennis worlds, dating back to 1989.

"We just supported and encouraged each other on the court. It's the most important thing in doubles events," said Chen.
